ABOUT US The Institute 4S is a Brussels-based, non-profit, non-governmental organization aimed at monitoring and analyzing the regional, European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes of Serbia, as well as exchanging ideas and contacts and proposing solutions to strengthen and speed up these processes. The term "4S" means "Symbol of Serbian Synergy Scope" and refers to a necessary synergy 1) between Serbian and European interests, 2) among Serbian people, 3) between the Serbs in Serbia and their diaspora, and 4) between the Serbs and other nations they live with. 10 OBJECTIVES 1) Assisting the synergy of Serb interests with the interests of EU institutions, EU member and candidate countries and their citizens. 2) Raising the quality of the debate on the relationship between Serbia and the EU in the light of the speeding up of the process leading to a full EU membership. 3) Supporting the legitimate interests of Serbia and its full territorial integrity 4) Working towards the achievement of European standards of all human rights for the citizens of Serbia and its diaspora. 5) Arguing for the freedom of movement of the citizens of Serbia and of all Western Balkans countries through the liberalization of the Schengen visa regime. 6) Coordinating a stronger cooperation among young talents in the Serbian diaspora. 7) Promoting a positive investment climate in Serbia and economic interests of companies from Serbia in the EU. 8) Educating the public opinion in Serbia about the EU and the EU public about Serbia. 9) Strengthening the image of Serbia in the EU. 10) Presenting the cultural and tourist treasure of Serbia. PUBLICATIONS CD-ROM/ Website "Kosovo 2006: The Making of a Compromise": A clear and concise multimedia presentation of facts and arguments calling for a compromise and balanced solution on the future status of Kosovo, aimed at international mediators, negotiation experts and interested institutions. Newsletter "In Press 4S": The monthly newsletter of the Institute 4S compiles political, economic and cultural analyses about Serbia and features prominent analysts and authors. Aleksandra Milanovic, Treasurer: a Paris-based financial and management expert for BNP-Paribas, activist in the promotion of Serbian diaspora cooperation. Benedicte Borel, Programme Manager/Analyst: : a consultant specialized in Serbia, the Balkans, the Russian federation and CIS, European and Euro-Atlantic policies. She worked as consultant in the International Staff of NATO at its Brussels Headquarters from 2003 to 2005 in political affaires and defence reforms issues. She is currently working on a Ph. D. in International Public Law and she holds two Masters Degrees in Political Science and Social Sciences, both with a thesis on Serbia. Analysts (external): Aleksandar Mitic, Chief Analyst : Correspondent of the Tanjug news agency in Brussels, lecturer at the Belgrade University and member of the international Executive Committee of the Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research (TFF, Lund, Sweden). He holds a BJ in Journalism and Political Science and MA in International Affairs/Conflict Analysis at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He is currently completing a PhD at the University of Belgrade. As correspondent of Agence France-Presse, he was the only international news agency reporter to cover the entire 1999 NATO bombing campaign from inside Kosovo. Aleksandar is Director of the Institute's multimedia project "Kosovo 2006: The Making of a Compromise". Frances Maria Peacock, Associate Analyst: Frances Maria Peacock is a Councilor in the UK and a political analyst specializing in Balkans. She has particular expertise relating to Kosovo and has written several articles and papers about this subject. Frances Maria is also concerned with the resolution of Kosovo's future status, for which she has developed some proposals, including a decentralization plan.
